2代目はX10型（セダン・ワゴン・バン）・X20型（2ドアハードトップ）で、車両コードが"X"となりました（マークXにも踏襲）。ボディは大型化され、日産スカイラインGTのライバルとして想定。その6気筒に対抗し、クラウンから移植のM型6気筒エンジンを搭載したモデル「Lシリーズ」で対抗。
