オイルショックや排出ガス規制対応のため登場が遅くなり、販売不振のため次期モデル910型系の登場が早まるなど、わずか3年4ヶ月の生産に留まった。キャッチフレーズは「ヘビーデューティ」であったが、引き続きのサイズ肥大化の一方で排気ガス対策とこれに伴う性能低下対処が最優先されたモデルであった。
