三菱のホットモデルだったギャランクーペFTOの名前を継承したモデルがFTOである。当初は日本国内専用車だったが、2000年代以降は日本から並行輸出もされ、海外にも保有者が存在する。

駆動方式はFFのみで、モーターショーでAWD仕様が参考出品されたが、販売には至らなかった。
