「ケンメリ」「ヨンメリ」の通称が付けられたのが、広告キャンペーン「ケンとメリーのスカイライン」からです。先代モデルの「C10型：スカイライン」の時代に展開された「愛のスカイライン」キャンペーンを継承、発展させたもので、「愛のスカイライン」のキャッチコピーも引き続き使用されていました。
